Science, Engineering & Technology Building, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, NV
The SE&T Building will be located on the north campus of UNLV, allowing users to take advantage of car pooling opportunities and bus routes. The building will incorporate a storm water management system to irrigate reclaimed native planting materials and will significantly reduce the heat islands of the original site. While scientific research laboratories do not typically lend themselves to energy savings, the team designed several systems to help in this regard; a reverse osmosis waste water recovery system, which will supply water to the urinals and toilets throughout the facility; heat recovery wheels to recover energy which would normally be lost from the laboratory hood exhaust system; and extensive day lighting schemes designed to permit light to penetrate into the labs, offices and public spaces. |
