Sandia Preparatory School Field House

Designed to replace a 1950s auxiliary gymnasium, the new field house grew from the collaboration between owner, contractor, and design team to define the vision, program, and budget as part of the design-assist delivery method for the project.  

The building was sited near the existing athletic fields to create a focal point for the east campus and to provide the functional necessities of additional parking and additional vehicular access points to the campus. Other design criteria included providing a lasting, contemporary facility that fit within the existing campus on a modest budget.
 
This 23,000 square-foot facility contains a gymnasium, public lobby, lockers rooms, training facilities, multi-purpose room, offices, concessions area, and storage.  All roof drainage from the building is collected in cisterns located beneath the parking area for reuse in landscape irrigation.
