Mesa Del Sol Fire Station #22

Mesa del Sol Fire Station #22 | Clovis Civic Center

This 12,200sf City of Albuquerque fire station provides living quarters for eleven fire fighters and an apparatus bay for four vehicles including an engine, a ladder truck, a paramedic rescue vehicle, and a battalion commander’s vehicle.

The living quarters consists of an open kitchen/dining/living space, four officers’ quarters, seven crew quarters, an exercise room, and a conference room. The conference room is located near the public lobby to accommodate public meetings. The officers’ quarters are located to the east to take advantage of mountain views. The L shaped configuration of the building provides protection from the harsh western sun. An exterior courtyard can also be accessed from the kitchen/dining/living space.

The project is currently pursuing a LEED Gold certification. Some of the sustainable features are photovoltaic solar panels (9 megawatts of power), daylighting at all occupied spaces, operable windows to allow comfort control, and the use of recycled and renewable materials. The new fire station uses water efficient, drought tolerant landscaping. The use of CMU, stucco and metal siding combine to give the building a high-tech industrial aesthetic that relates to the other industrial buildings located in the surrounding area.
