APS Tony Hillerman Middle School

This 170,000sf high-performance school was designed to conserve energy and water while creating an indoor environment that supports health and learning for approximately 1200 students. This project is pursuing LEED Silver certification. Some of the key sustainable features/strategies include stormwater retention, low water use landscaping, ultra-low flow plumbing fixtures, energy efficient building envelope and mechanical systems, energy efficient lighting, and operable windows. This building is expected to use 38% less energy and 50% less water than a typical school. In addition, the project has received EPA’s “Designed to Earn the Energy Star” designation and ranked in the top 15% of energy efficient design projects.
